my son came home from
his Poppy's house (my Dad) and he had spent three
hours with him at an indoor equivalent to Chuckie Cheese and he was
wired!!
He snuggled up on the couch with his new weighted lap-pad to watch
Herbie
the Love Bug and he is now asleep with his chewlery bracelet halfway in
his
mouth! Before
he fell asleep he told me how good he felt!
Thanks for the recommendation, it's appreciated!

Our
Weighted Lap Pads
At times your child will require pressure
applied to them to feel calm, you can add our
SensoryCritters.com
Weighted
Lap pads and if needed your child may
need our
Weighted Vests as well which will
assist with concentration and focus on what the teacher needs your child
to do. Please refer to your Occupational Therapist for recommended
products.
The
bottom line is that as parents we want our children to succeed and by
providing our children with assistance to be more attentive in class so
they are able to absorb the assignments and complete them as requested -
leads to success of our children.
When
your child is aware of his/her surroundings and are calm they tend to
concentrate longer and sometimes you'll find that a weighted lap pad is
not enough, they will require a weighted vest to wear for an hour at a
time with the weighted lap pad during work time, and then remove the
weighted products for play time.
Are
you having a hard time remembering what each of these words mean and how
they affect your child?
Here are some examples, for additional examples

Tips for Parents where you will also find many other
invaluable tips from 911 assistance, tags for your children's shoes,
stickers for your home and vehicle and more.

not mean it cannot be "hip" and durable. Children want to fit in with
their friends and classmates; SensoryCritters.com fabric choices will
continue to change with current trends.

Fabric ~ Thread ~ Contents:
During our research and development in regards
to SensoryCritters.com Weighted Lap Pads
for Sensory Integration children we sought out findings on Fabric used on the product, Thread used on currently
marketed weighted lap pads as well as Contents for the Weighted Vest.
Our findings are below with each subject with a Problem, Finding, and
Solution to the following:
-
Fabric Problem:
Due to consistent rubbing of the seams, children
using these products are wearing down the seams, creating the
possibility of the weighted content to fall out and become accessible
and possibly harmful to the child if the child is left unattended
without
adult supervision.
-
Fabric Findings: Lap pads on the current market – not all – but
ones that were checked and tested through parents and reviewed by our
seamstresses were found to be Single Layered fabric which doesn’t create
a secured product.
-
Fabric Solution:
SensoryCritters.com have gone the extra measure
through creating products and using a double
layer of fabric for each side of our
SensoryCritters.com Weighted Lap pad ensuring that not one layer of quality fabric is between the poly
pellets, fabric and the child, but two quality layers of fabric stand
between the poly pellets and the child. This way if one layer does start
to wear, there is a second layer right below it for added
protection. Also with the creation of each lap pad is great care so
there is only 1 triple stitched seam of the four sides, creating a
smooth weighted lap pad for your child.
-
Thread Problem:
Again, due to consistent rubbing of the seams,
children using these products are wearing down the single stitched
seams, creating the possibility of the weighted content to fall out
and become accessible and possibly harmful to the child if the child
is left unattended without
adult supervision. Please NEVER leave your child unsupervised.
-
Thread Findings:
Lap pads on the current market – not
all – but ones that were checked and tested through parents and reviewed
by our seamstresses were found to be Single stitched which doesn’t
create a secured product.
-
Thread
Solution:
SensoryCritters.com uses only the highest quality thread
possible and is also the same type used with
manufactured clothing for its durability. Each custom sewn
SensoryCritters.com Weighted Lap pad has been triple stitched when
creating the inside seams. When the
SensoryCritters.com Weighted Lap pad is completed a second triple stitch
is sewn around the edge for an added security measure.
-
Contents Problem: The simple fact that children use
weighted lap pads on a daily basis and for various reasons as well
as locations, as with anything that gets used daily is going to get
dirty. Weighted Lap pads that are made with products that are non
washable are not user friendly for the child for cleanliness reasons
nor for the parent/caretaker whose duty it is to maintain a clean
atmosphere for their children. Lets face it - we as adults spill
things, drop things, and get dirty - so our children have the same
issues, Products must be washable.
-
Contents Findings: Lap pads on the current market were checked and tested for content
ingredients. Here is what we found:
-
Navy beans: Can not be washed
and if they are washed

they swell and then will mold. They can be
swiped with a damp cloth, however, what happens if lunch is split on
the Lap pad and the drink goes right through the pad? End
of your lap pad.
-
Copperhead bb pellets: These pellets are made of
metal and can pose a serious risk if used improperly. They are not
made for use with children's products. Some of the Lap pads are
filled with these bb pellets and poly pellets. The reason they use
this method is to create a heavier weight without having to use as
many poly pellets, saving the person manufacturing the weighted Lap
pad money. However, the health risks of when these bb pellets are
used and they get dirty and are thrown into the washing machine and
dryer - the pellets get wet and over time, will rust which is never
good to have near your skin. The rust will come through your fabric
and the toxins from the rust will be susceptible to your child.
-
Poly-Pellets: Poly-Pellets and Poly-fil products
by Fairfield Processing Corporation are recognized for their
superior quality and are unconditionally guaranteed.
Their products are 100% polypropylene, Consistent in shape and
have Smooth edges. You can visit their
site directly
for poly-pellets and many other fine crafting quality products.
-
Contents Solution:
SensoryCritters.com has decided after
researching various content products that our weighted lap pads and
neck wraps will only
have Poly-pellets used for our content. Plus with the triple
stitching and double layers of fabric on each side of the
poly-pellets that each and every
SensoryCritters.com Weighted
Lap pad and Neck wrap are made for durability and we are proud to have our name on
each and every product.

Care of Your
SensoryCritters.com Weighted Lap Pad:
Washing of your
SensoryCritters.com Weighted Lap Pad should be done
in COLD water on delicate wash with COLD rinse with a mild detergent. If
you don't want any shrinkage, you should lay your
SensoryCritters.com
Weighted Lap Pad flat to dry, especially if you have ordered yours with
our
Content PLUS tm
and washing and drying in a warm
setting can possibly create shrinkage up to
1/2". The best way to wash and dry them is at night and lay
them over the shower rod. By morning under "normal-non humid" weather conditions the
product will be dry and ready for use in the morning.
Please
note that during our research we created our lap pads and washed and
dried them in warm water with towels and dried them in the dryer 15
times over and over to double check that they were durable under
"washing and drying". The product did not shrink much and did withstand
the towels and looked like it was still new. Cold water
is recommended by most detergent companies at this time such as
Tide. If your child is sensitive to detergents, please
wash with your current brand of detergent or try Woollite.
